DAY TO DAY HIGHLIGHT
Day 1: Kigali city excursion
Enjoy a heavy breakfast and you will be picked up by your driver guide. Today, you will spend most of your day exploring Kigali capital with an experienced guide. This includes visiting the Kigali memorial centre for you to have insight into what occurred in the 1994 Rwandan genocide. A visit to the presidential palace museum, craft shops and local markets like Kimironko will also be explored.
Day 2: Explore Nyanza area, visit the King’s palace
Leave Kigali for Nyanza where you will be visiting the King’s palace. At the king’s palace, you will explore a lot about the Rwandan monarchy system before the colonial era. There will be a chance for you to see the long horned cattle, and then in the afternoon, continue to ethnographic museum. In the afternoon, you will be transferred to the lodge around Nyungwe Forest National Park.
Day 3: Guided walk in the tea estates
You will embark on a guided walk in Gisakura tea estates and factory. You will be led by an experienced local guide and while here, you won’t only learn about tea is planted but also process it takes to come up with final product. You will have hands-on experience as you pick tea and later, have taste of Rwandan grown tea. Return to the lodge for lunch and proceed to Gisenyi city on the shores of Lake Kivu.
Day 4: Explore Gisenyi & transfer to Musanze area
Have breakfast and after, you will be visiting the Gisenyi hot springs on the Eastern shores of Lake Kivu. These are powerful hot springs with boiling record of up to 75 degrees Celsius.
After the Gisenyi hot springs excursion, visit some of the fishing markets, explore different traditions and cultures of the local residents who live along Lake Kivu shores. You will later transfer to Musanze area situated near Volcanoes National Park.
Day 5: Embark on the Iby’iwacu village tour and visit the Musanze caves
A visit to Iby’Iwacu village will be done in the morning and the local guide will accompany you. Today’s visit will be to explore the unique cultures, traditions and also get entertained by locals. After the cultural experience, you will visit Musanze caves whose creation dates back to 65 million years.
Day 6: Departure to Kigali city.
You may choose to go for Dian Fossey tomb trek in Volcanoes NP or drive back to Kigali. The Dian Fossey trek offers a great insight into the life of Dian Fossey and her mountain gorilla conservation legacy.
Walk in the footsteps of world’s renowned primatologist – Dian Fossey, an adventure that will last for 2-4 hours. Check out of the lodge and start driving back to Kigali where you will be dropped off at the airport to clear with authorities ready for your departure flight.
